The Art Abandonment Project and Just For Mom

I have been reading about the Art Abandonment Project, a project where artists "create and share random acts of art." I know there's a book about it out there and Facebook group devoted to this, neither of which I have investigated yet, however, I did, in the process of making a bunch of mail art recently, set some aside just for abandoning. This week I did abandon five pieces of art, using those advertisement post cards often seen in the mail in various sizes. You know the ones I mean- those that get tossed in the garbage or recycling bin. I worked on about 8 cards, used three for mail art and on my way home from work this week, while running errands, I discreetly left the rest of them in public places. Leaving them in public places discreetly was like I imagine playing spy at the airport. I had to find an area or aisle where no one was around to place it in a spot. Several times I stood at the end of an aisle or nearby to see if I could spy someone spying the card, but no one did. I was too tired to wait around. Placing it and then quickly photographing it without someone seeing me added to the feeling of playing spy. On the back of each card I had written the following: Hello! If you have found this card it's your lucky day. If you don't want it please pass it on to someone who might like it or need some kindness today. It was created by an artist who wanted to share it for free. Taking a quick, clear photograph was not always easy. I intend to make more. IN fact I intend to make it happen often. This idea came to me as I was experimenting with new colors and design for something I wanted to do for my Mother. Before she moved to her new home in CT she mentioned something about wanting to change the color scheme in her bathroom. Like maybe a new shower curtain. Something maybe with turquoise she had said. No problem, I thought. I love turquoise. In fact it's one of my favorite colors. So a new shower curtain was born!!! I snapped this picture on my Iphone as it's shown on Society6 so it's not very good. You cans go here and view it much better. I also thought it looked pretty awesome here. Again, you can see more of this design and others I have created by going here By following me or liking me on Society6 would be greatly appreciated. Or perhaps you might be in the market for a new shower curtain or pillow? Either way, I am pretty tickled with the way it looks and even more tickled that my Mother really likes it and will be redecorating soon. Thanks for stopping by and for your support and kind comments. Happy Paint Party Friday!! I hope you have a great weekend.

Wish Upon A Star.

All those days playing with the gelli plate turned in to something good.. Cut in strips and glued down to water color paper. So they could become stars and houses and hearts. And then there's always mail art. I love how playing can turn into so much more playing.........Remember my little wooden houses I've been showing you in several of my posts? I have posted them in my Etsy shop. It would be nice to send them to someone to hang on their wall. You can see them to the right..xoxoxo....jo

The Balcony Scene

Today is my birthday. I won't tell you which birthday it is. I share my birthday with my "womb mate" twin brother, John. Last year you may recall seeing the birthday card I made him. My twin brother decided in his 50th yr he wanted to become a police officer. And I'm not sure but I think we both hated the bologna sandwiches in our lunches growing up which is where the idea for that card came from. This year I made an envelope out of a copy of one of my art papers. I enclosed a print of another piece of my work. I mailed it on Saturday and he still has not received it. I told him that was not cool and it was my feeling that perhaps someone really liked the envelope and wanted to keep it for themselves and that he should perhaps arrest them......... hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.....Here we are performing the balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet.................. Thanks for visiting............Jo

Too Strange

Seems very strange that 14 days ago when I was snug in my upstairs studio while this was happening outside. And today it was 90 degrees and everything is blooming. For lack of anything else to show you tonight I wanted to show you again what was on my art table a year ago today. I believe all of these became mail art. And I remember getting this sudden urge to plant color in the grass on a beautiful morning, so I set about strategically placing these around my back yard. I think I was playing around with resists-and texture with gesso and rubber cement on these pages. I remember combing the gesso with a wide toothed comb on the purple page. I should find all these pages and make them backgrounds for journal pages.......Duh! Like right now as I have this sudden urge to go find them. Thank you so much for all your comments regarding the previous post. I hope you've had an ok if not better than ok day..............please visit again........................................xoxo......... jo

Gluing and Pasting Machine

I feel like I've been a gluing and pasting machine the last several weeks in order to satisfy my sudden need to use up my paper scraps- all of them from my own art. So I went on this kick of filling up large pieces of watercolor paper with layers and layers of my paper scraps and then cutting them into post card 4 x 6 size. Here are some from the second batch of cutting and pasting with the finishing touches of my own stamps and pens and markers. I have so many layers of paper on these cards. Paper from the gelli plate sessions, painted wax paper, wax paper or index cards with markings from stamps and or paint and paper from wiping my paint brushes, and torn paper from stuff I made that I didn't really like but didn't want to throw away. I think I've satisfied this need of making mail art for the moment. Thanks for spending a few minutes here with me................................................jo
