Hope you are well. I'm doing the NO SNOW DANCE TODAY AND TONIGHT as I have had quite enough after the last snow that hit here in Virginia a couple of weeks ago. I grew up in New York State and also lived in Boston for a number of years so I have had enough to last me a life time. Virginia does not know how to deal with it, and I find it hard to deal with Virginia not knowing how Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12785431173356005608noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952959671189676362.post-11358437235872374792016-01-15T17:20:00.000-08:002016-01-15T17:23:13.398-08:00Seeing Things DifferentlySo, one of the things I wanted to do this year was learn to draw. I finally got my hands on and have been devouring Danny Gregory's book The Creative License. Last year I altered a cheapo calendar planner from the Dollar Store and every morning in the car before work, I documented by life with tidbits of journaling and bits of art. It felt good to me to do a little art before I went into work. I hope everyone is well. Just wanted to share something short tonight. It's been a heck of a work week and it's all I can do to sit at this keyboard.
I've been playing around with water color for a few weeks. I really do not know much about working with water color, but I know I do not want to paint with water color in the traditional sense. I'm showing you the photo of the two I had done this year and asked you if you could tell which was the real one and which was the artificial one. Many of you guessed right and some of you said you weren't exactly sure but pretty sure. I think if the turquoise one had a longer stem it might have been harder to tell. I discovered the great pleasure of altering pumpkins.
Everything from collaging them to painting them
to doodling on them. I gave a lot of them away to family, friends and coworkers. I had shellacked them all and the ones I kept sat on my dining room table until just after Thanksgiving. I know there's a book about it out there and Facebook group devoted to this, neither of which I have investigated yet, however, I did, in the process of making a bunch of mail art recently, set some aside just for abandoning. I started this project I call Project 52 about 18 mos ago, of altering a deck of cards. I thought I'd get a bit creative by placing Etude, on the keys of my old mahogany, upright piano.
I hope you've been enjoying my little mini canvases. I'll show you the rest tomorrow. You can see earlier ones in previous posts but here's a few more.
I was not as enthusiastic with some of the cards as I was with others. Some are just plain "simple." The people on the vintage photo card came from some of my family photos although right this moment I cannot tell you who they are. And Anne Lamott is one of my favorite authors. Last week I was on "staycation." Ironically, it coincided with my mother's leaving/relocating to her new home in Ct. I was glad I was around to help her and see her off on her new venture. And I was able to get away for a day with one of my favorite people in one of my favorite places, so I actually could feel I had a bit of a "holiday" before heading back to work.
It was a perfect day.

I often worry how long people will stick around if one lapses in blogging. I tend to feel guilty when I've gone this long. Sometimes one just never knows how long one might be gone.

I wanted to add some bling but wasn't sure how I wanted to do it. I had to work quickly with laying down these beads with a hot glue gun. And then I trimmed the length of the bead strands. I was pretty happy with the end result.

It was just too crazy with graduation stuff. I made some home made wrapping paper.
Had some fun with home made stencils and some stamps and then I took the little wooden house that I made and wrapped it up with bling because my mother loves bling. I think the gold ribbon looks awesome with the colors in the wrapping paper.
